THE #1 BAD DAR POEM....
"Sonnet" (efeggf)
by Jeff Gilson
Dar has shoulders that are quite familiar
Since to sleeveless dresses she's quite peculiar.
Whether they be black or brown or printed,
We have all poured over them and squinted.
Dar's instrument, a Laviree, inlaid
With pearl, it shines when her guitar is splayed.
Spike, her tuner, quite often misbehaved;
It is gone, perhaps in her driveway paved.
The band with Dar was best with Richard S.,
though e'en without they rock the freakin' world
Dar solo still seems to many to be best,
But Stephanie Winters cello is grand,
The bow so expertly held in her hand
Reminds us of great Dar concerts unfurled.
The #2 Bad Dar Poem:
"What is a Dar?"
by Holly Deal
Is it a song
in a commerical
for a small German car?
Did someone leave out the "k"
in their great hurry
when writing "dark" one day?
Was it a child
rambling out syllables
one night while
her parents smiled?
What is a "Dar"?
What is it for?
Is it a club
for descendants
of the men in some war?
Is it something you do
using a Kleenex
when you have the flu?
Or is it something you cry
when somebody leaves
and you just don't know why?
What is a "Dar"?
What is a "Dar"?
What is a "Dar"?
the #3 Bad Dar Poem:
"An Interrupted (moo) Limerick on Dar"
by Meredith Killaugh
There once was a nusician named Dar
Whose songs I scream to in my car
even Mark Rothko.
which isn't good screaming music but still works.
She's from somewhere near Boston
But she once came to Austin
With Stephanie the Wonder Cellist and a guitar.
Honorable Mention (or really, very special mention!) Bad Dar Poem:
"Dar"
by Mimi Alidor (sung to the familiar
"Meow Mix" song)
Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar
Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar Dar....
(to be repeated until the Mortal City's February snow thaws.)

Other literary masterpieces
Dar's a star,
Dar's better than par!
i wanna see Dar, yet not at a bar,
but i would drive really far
to see Dar

Dar dee dah dee dar,
If you weren't so far,
I would bottle you in a jar,
And wouldn't sell you even for a million gold bars....

She likes Iowa better
by Anita Lauer
It was in August
Near the end of this summer
When I saw this chick who is As Cool as I am.
It was in Milwaukee
Which is close enough
to Iowa
If you're from the east, (or west)
Coast
That chick was Dar
and now I will travel far
Because she is my Road Buddy
And she hardly ever comes to Ohio
She likes Iowa better

A few Dar haiku:
Dar sings, strums, kicks butts
A goddess in stretch velvet
Yeah, she's really blonde
Dar-lister's nightmare:
Bottled water from Wal-Mart
Fills up our landfills
"Bosomy round hills"
The Iowa tourist board
Should sign up our Dar
Dreams of Dar, questions
Another day on Dar-list
Is Tom Neff a god?
As cool as Dar is
Who cares about Top 40?
Our girl has real spice

OWED TO DAR WILLIAMS
Oh Dar, you are my star by far
I'd meet you if I had a car
I'd buy you pearls, and corn on the cob
I'd buy you lots, if I had a job
I'd swim, I'd sail, I'd never fail
Could you send some cash for bail?
Oh Dar I am your biggest fan
But the batteries died on my Walkman
Will you marry me one of these days?
If not, then send some double-A's.
..........................................................Mike Thompson
Oh Dar, oh Dar, oh Dar,
You are the best by far.
Your music is so cool,
It makes me dance on a stool.
Your albums are so neat,
They make me move my feet.
Your voice is so great,
It makes me folk music not hate.
Your lyrics are so prolific,
Why, they are just terriffic!
Oh Dar, oh Dar, oh Dar,
You are the best by far.

Dar's music
is not quite
lollapaloozic
And though it be cruel
to compare her to Jewel
what I must decide is -
since she's not invited-
is Lilith really fair?

A Very Poorly Written Tribute to Dar and Her Muse
There is a girl who plays guitar,
she's my folk-girl hero, Dar!
I'd like to send her muse a note
for all the great stuff that Dar's wrote.
It would say thank you and hello,
and ask for more Dar songs to know.
I listen to Dar all the time
her music really is that fine.
If you're smart you'll listen too,
Dar has things to sing to you.
............................................Kelsey McCourt
I think that I shall never see
A singer/songwriter like Dar be
But even better is to listen
To all the stuff that I been missin
Like The Ocean - inspired by heroin?
Or Iowa's singer - a her or a him?
And if perchance I should miss
All the arcane references
I still think Dar is a goddess
In the city or in the forest
Fools like me should not write a poem
It's just as well, think I'll go hoem.

February comes
We freeze like keys in the ice
Is that a crocus?

oh dar
i listen to you in my car
as i drive past the bars
oh dar

Dar, The Star, How I Wonder What You Are
My heroine Dar
Plays the guitar.
She's on a par
With drinking at the bar.
Her clothing's far
Blacker than tar
Or marshmellow char.
If I didn't have a car
To drive to see Dar
I'd bellow a RAR.
If I were the Tzar,
I'd have Dar
As my registrar.
Without Dar
I would be marred,
jarred,
scarred
forevar.
