Subject: A joint-effort parody
Hey folks.. I had sworn I wouldn't get caught up in the parody thing ("As
Cool As Our List" being my one and only true attempt) but after the recent
post concerning the reference to lesbians in C&P (or lack thereof), Scott
emailed me noting that between our little comments, we had 1/3 of a parody
written. So we threw our ideas together, tossed in a few more lines, and
wound up with a parody. See, you don't even have to be in the same
country
to be a great songwriting team. :) Figuring there was no reason it should
go to waste, we give you.....
"The Folkies and the Bigots"
By Kerry Bernard and Scott Duncan
Amber called her Uncle, said, "We're here to see the big Dar show.
Jane and I were honeymooning, and now we have no place to go."
And her "country-music" loving Uncle thought good singers all must have a
drawl,
Drugs in songs must be just "booze", and all sex - heterosexual.
The meal was great, the meat well-cooked, food was thrown,
but not that far,
Then Timmy turned to Amber and said, "I have never heard of Dar"
His mom jumped up and said, "Cause Dar's not country!" and she left in a
whirl
and it was Jane who spoke, she said, "It's true that Dar is not a cow
girl.
But we love the words, we love the tunes, the
Dar-list where we love to post, and you find talent in
Shania Twain, and it is Dar we love the most."
So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Discussing music and guitar brands the best that they were able,
And where does folk music come from? Uncle said "It comes from those
lesbians
Cause look at all those crazy gays invading music and the thespians."
When Amber tried to explain to him, her uncle said, "Really no, don't
bother"
Amber saw how his views were like his wife's and just like his brother.
She thought about her father, how he disowned her for marrying Jane.
Her mother was supportive but her dad's views can really be inane.
She thought of homophobes and bigots, thought of those who were afraid,
saying
"Lesbians are creepy", when inside we're really all the same.
So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Working through the homophobia the best that they were able,
And just before they went to sleep, her uncle looked at her and said,
"My views have finally taken a leap and you and Jane can share a bed."
