Okay, just had to get this one out. It was a shower inspiration, and they
can nag worse than anything else.

Unravelling Again (Knitting I)

Has he got everything? Is he ready to go?
Am I gonna be right, am I gonna be the best scarf?
Or am I just a sweater, oh?
Is he ready to go?
What is it makes him grab the needles and the skein and so?
I think it started with knitting,
cast on, then perl, until he can unfurl
That scarf around his neck
But it's taken him years and it's always wrong
So I'm unravelling again
Knitting at the homestead, and where is his girlfriend?
And I am scared, oh, is there any good reason,
I want to know, 'cause all I know is I would rather be rolled.

Unravelling I made a friend, had some troubles in his head
And all he could say was knitting was
Better than any woman in his bed
In his bed.
He said, "I'm not gonna slip a stitch again."
But escape is just like knitting
More yarn, more red, over the whole house it's spread
And tangles on itself
He won't take it and he snips 'cause it drives him mad
But he don't just like me, his in-between
A sage-brush 4-ply
Can you believe this guy
And someday I'll be in a long scarf and we will go away away
From home to cities I'd like to view

Yeah, what about rust? Is it really that bad?
Sure the color don't go but it's nice, though,
More than some you've kept in back,
In the scrap bin
What is he reaching for that I don't wanna behold?
Oh no, he's started crocheting,
It can't be true, what's he trying to do?
It's just it's taken him so long
To get to where he is and he's starting over
So I'm unravelling again
Sitting with him all night, watch the needle bend
And I am scared, oh, is there any good reason,
I want to know, 'cause all I know is
I am on the roll, again
Will I be the best scarf, or am I sweater?
And I can say, oh, that's a very good reason
I've gotta know, but all I know is he'll probably go back,
Yes he will go back.
